The Election taking place on December 21st for the Catalan Parliament, is the result of the recent intervention of the Spanish government to the Catalan Administration through Article 155 of the Spanish Constitution.
After the Referendum was celebrated 1st October, the Spanish government decided to nullify the voter’s choice, imprison their local authorities and call for new elections.
This time, we look forward to the ballot box for a victory over a repressive state that uses violence against their own citizens. Whilst they forbid and repress us, we propose an election with social content in mind, to create a Catalan Republic together.
Today’s election campaign meeting was hosted by Gerard Gómez del Moral (ex·member of the Catalan Parliament and current ERC candidate) and Pilar Vallugera (ERC candidate). The debate considered all the laws that have been created by the Catalan government since 2015 and vetoed by the Spanish government. Laws such as the one on ‘Energetic Poverty’ and one updating the regulations of taxes for empty households, laws with a strong social conscience.
Paraphrasing Pilar’s words, “… the Spanish government, systematically prohibits laws of high cultural and social content in Catalonia, while at the same time they infringe laws of any kind, even the ones they have created, and, most importantly, they ignore facts of greater importance such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights …”
Nevertheless, like our motto says :
“democracy always wins”.
